Controls Engineer – Forest Gate, London

Are you an experienced Controls Engineer looking to join a forward-thinking manufacturer that values innovation, quality, and technical excellence? This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in maintaining, upgrading, and developing the site’s control systems — ensuring optimal plant performance and reliability.
The Role
As a Controls Engineer, you will provide expert electrical and controls support across the site. You’ll take ownership of fault diagnosis, system upgrades, and electrical compliance — ensuring that all engineering activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest technical standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and upgrade site PLC systems and associated documentation.
- Lead controls/electrical improvement projects from concept through to commissioning.
- Develop and assess electrical competency across the engineering team.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory electrical legislation and company standards.
- Manage electrical inspections, testing procedures, and PAT systems.
- Provide hands-on support during breakdowns and planned shutdowns.
- Champion electrical safety across the site, driving a culture of compliance and continuous improvement.
- Participate in site safety tours and continuous improvement initiatives.
About You
You’ll bring strong technical knowledge, a proactive attitude, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience with PLCs, SCADA, and networking technologies.
- Familiarity with Modicon and Rockwell PLCs, Siemens and DeviceNet FieldBus Networks, and iFix SCADA packages.
- Experience with SQL Server, reporting software, and legacy systems.
- Strong understanding of electrical standards, compliance, and documentation.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise with senior management.
