Day Shift Team Leader – Energy Recovery Facility (ERF)
Salary: £62,000 per annum + excellent benefits
Shift: Days only | Monday–Friday | 7:00am start (ideal)
Location: Energy Recovery Facility (ERF)- Exeter
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Day Shift Team Leader to join a large, well-established Energy Recovery Facility. This is a senior operational role with responsibility for leading day shift operations, ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant running of the plant, and delivering high standards of performance, safety and environmental compliance.
The Role
As Day Shift Team Leader, you will take full responsibility for the health, safety and performance of the day shift operational teams, contractors and visitors on site. Acting as the Senior Authorised Person (SAP), you will manage safe systems of work, oversee key operational areas including the Tipping Hall, IBA Hall and Weighbridge, and ensure the facility operates efficiently and in line with environmental permits and company standards.
You will provide strong leadership to the day shift team, manage workloads and rotas, coordinate contractors, oversee consumables and by-product logistics, and support continuous improvement across safety, quality and operational performance. In the absence of the Operations Manager, you will act as their deputy.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and supervise day shift operations to maximise plant availability and efficiency

Act as Senior Authorised Person (SAP), managing permits and safe systems of work

Promote and visibly lead a strong health, safety and environmental culture

Ensure compliance with environmental permits and statutory requirements

Manage day shift rotas, shift cover and return-to-work processes

Develop and appraise team members through regular reviews and action plans

Coordinate contractors, mobile plant and process consumables

Carry out risk assessments, incident investigations and emergency response duties

Lead operational improvement initiatives across safety, quality and housekeeping

Ensure all visitors and contractors are fully inducted and compliant
About You
You will be an experienced supervisor or team leader from a process, power generation or energy-from-waste environment, with a strong understanding of safe systems of work and operational leadership.
Essential requirements:

Experience in a process or power plant environment

Strong knowledge of health, safety and environmental compliance

Experience issuing permits to work and managing safety documentation

Engineering qualification (ONC / HNC or equivalent)

IOSH or NEBOSH safety qualification

Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills

Computer literate
Desirable:

Senior Authorised Person (SAP) status (Mechanical / HV / LV)

Experience supervising shift teams and contractors

Knowledge of environmental permitting (IPPC / EPR)

Experience with CMMS systems
