Electrical Control & Instrumentation Technician
Location: Bicester
Salary: £52,000 per annum
Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday – Double Days (Earlies & Lates)
An established industrial operation is seeking an Electrical Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Technician to join its engineering team. This is a key hands-on role responsible for maintaining, fault-finding, and improving critical control and instrumentation systems within a complex process environment.
The Role
As a C&I Technician, you will be responsible for both planned and reactive maintenance across a wide range of control and instrumentation equipment, ensuring plant reliability, safety, and performance targets are consistently achieved.
You will work closely with other engineering disciplines and contractors, contributing to continuous improvement while maintaining the highest health, safety, and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned and unplanned C&I maintenance activities
- Diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs
- Maintain calibration records and perform instrument calibrations
- Interpret and work from P&IDs and instrument loop drawings
- Support and coordinate contractors when required
- Conduct plant and area safety inspections
- Accurately record work within the CMMS
- Assist with asset monitoring and breakdown response
- Contribute to continuous improvement and reliability initiatives
- Cover aspects of the C&I Engineer role when required
About You
You will be a proactive and safety-focused technician with strong problem-solving skills and experience in a process or power-based environment.
Essential Requirements:
- C&I maintenance experience within a process industry or power plant environment
- Experience with DCS and/or SCADA systems
- Strong fault-finding and calibration experience
- Experience using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
- Recognised apprenticeship with City & Guilds / NVQ (or equivalent)
- Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental practices
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
Desirable:
- ONC/HNC in a technical discipline
- COMPEX 1–4
- Experience with Safe Systems of Work / Permit to Work
- Formal H&S qualifications
- Full UK driving licence

Shift Pattern
4 Week rolling Rota
Mon - Fri 7 - 3:30 p.m. (For 3 weeks)
4th week – Mon – Fri 12 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. (On call that week)
