Job Title: Test Engineer
Location: Severn Beach, Bristol
Salary: £33,000 – £39,000 + 20% shift allowance (£39,600 – £46,800 total package)
Working Pattern: Rotating shifts (Early & Afternoon)
Early Shift: 6:00am-14:00pm Mon-Thurs, 6:00am-12pm Fridays
Afternoon Shift: 14:00pm-22:00pm Mon-Thurs, 12:00pm-17:00pm Fridays

About the Role
We’re currently seeking four skilled Test Engineers to join a high-tech manufacturing team delivering advanced systems for the engineering of micro- and nano-structures. These tools support research and production in critical sectors such as medical diagnostics, electric vehicles, and quantum computing.
As a Test Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering fully tested, high-performance systems and ensuring each unit meets stringent quality and safety standards. You’ll play a key role in system diagnostics, continuous improvement, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver fully functional, tested systems according to set procedures and documentation standards
- Take ownership of the allocated system and proactively resolve any issues
- Accurately complete documentation to support all test results and activities
- Work consistently to meet testing timelines and production targets
- Identify and support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce test times and improve quality
- Record and report product faults and quality concerns using data capture tools (e.g. FRACAS)
- Support on-time delivery by working collaboratively with the wider production and test teams
- Contribute to quality, Health & Safety, cleanliness, and 5S standards
- Participate in customer pre-acceptance testing and occasional site visits for install/commissioning
- Actively promote workplace organisation and 5S principles
About You
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- Time-served Electrical apprenticeship or equivalent (City & Guilds Level 3, HNC, HND, or BTech in Electrical Engineering)
- Proficient in reading and following test procedures and recording results accurately
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills to component level
- Knowledge of Health & Safety and quality standards related to electrical testing
- Comfortable with IT systems and data entry/reporting tools
- Motivated team player with good communication skills
- Proactive approach with strong attention to detail and a continuous improvement mindset
- Willingness to travel occasionally to customer sites
- Comfortable working independently and flexibly across shift patterns
Shift Details
You will be employed on a rotating shift pattern:
- Early Shift: Mon–Thurs: 6am–2pm | Fri: 6am–12pm
- Afternoon Shift: Mon–Thurs: 2pm–10pm | Fri: 12pm–5pm
Each working week includes four shifts of 8 hours and one of 5 hours. Shifts include a 30-minute unpaid meal break and two 15-minute refreshment breaks (half of the lunch break is paid).
