Purpose of the Role:
The Estimator will be responsible for producing accurate estimates, detailing the time, labour, materials, and processes required to deliver high-quality machined components. This role is essential in maintaining high levels of customer service while supporting business growth and operational efficiency.
Scope & Relationships:
The Estimator will collaborate with management to help define machine shop processes and routing with accurate time estimations. You will work closely with the sales team to ensure targets are achieved, while maintaining strong communication with production teams, customers, and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
- Provide accurate quotations for machined components, covering materials, labour, specifications, and subcontracted services.
- Interpret customer requirements from technical drawings, specifications, samples, and 3D CAD models.
- Coordinate with Production and Purchasing teams to ensure delivery timelines are feasible and accurate.
- Support the creation of machine shop routing and process documentation, assisting in cost calculation.
- Liaise with the sales team regarding customer information and order conversion.
- Obtain supplier quotations for materials and outsourced products when quotations convert to orders.
- Source competitive pricing for external materials and subcontracted services.
- Contribute to sales reporting by tracking quotation success rates and lost opportunities.
- Collaborate with sales and quality teams on customer drawing concessions when necessary.
- Always adhere to company health and safety procedures.
Experience Required:
- Experience in a similar estimating or engineering role.
- Strong understanding of CNC and manual milling and turning processes.
- Awareness of current tooling developments and best practices.
- Commercial awareness and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong mathematical and numerical reasoning.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
- Competent in using Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
