About the Role
An established engineering company is seeking an experienced and driven Head of Engineering to lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams and manage a diverse portfolio of bespoke engineering projects.
Reporting to senior leadership, you will take ownership of projects throughout the entire lifecycle — from concept and design through to build, commissioning and completion. You will also oversee the engineering and ongoing development of the company’s standard product range, including pumping and vacuum equipment.
This is a senior leadership role where you will manage and develop teams of Project Managers, Engineers, Designers and Technical Specialists, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the highest technical standards.
We are looking for a highly experienced mechanical and/or electrical engineer with strong leadership skills, a passion for innovation and a proven ability to deliver complex engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the company’s engineering project portfolio, including bespoke design projects and standard product development.
- Provide technical leadership and oversight for all existing and developing products.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, safety and quality requirements relating to product design and application.
- Oversee multiple concurrent projects and ensure timely, safe and cost-effective delivery.
- Manage and develop multi-disciplinary teams including:
- Project Management
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering
- Documentation and Design Teams
- Testing, Installation and Commissioning
- Work closely with procurement, manufacturing and operations teams to ensure efficient project delivery.
- Identify and resolve project risks, reducing delays and improving performance.
- Provide accurate project forecasting and reporting to senior leadership.
- Ensure successful project completion, including contract delivery and invoicing milestones.
- Drive continuous improvement in project, design and build processes.
- Support the development of new and improved standard product solutions.
- Maintain engineering systems, documentation and technical records.
- Inspire and develop engineering staff to achieve high performance and innovation.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- Significant experience working with pumping, vacuum, rotating equipment or similar engineered systems.
- Strong background in complex mechanical, electro-mechanical or hydraulic systems, ideally in hazardous or regulated environments.
- Experience managing custom engineered machinery projects in a project-driven environment.
- Proven ability to solve complex engineering challenges within strict project timelines.
- Demonstrated experience building and leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong organisational and project management capabilities.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical, Electrical or related Engineering discipline.
- Proficiency with MS Office and 3D CAD systems.
- Experience working within formal Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety management systems.
