Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager
Location: Bath
Salary: £43,000 – £50,000
Hours:
- Monday – Thursday: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
The Company
An established paper mill specialising in high-security paper products is seeking an experienced EHS Manager to join their team at their site near Bath. The site has a long-standing history within the industry and is recognised for its commitment to quality and innovation.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Technical Manager, this role is part of the site leadership team and is responsible for managing all Environmental, Health, Safety and Fire risk matters. The successful candidate will ensure statutory, regulatory, and operational compliance while cultivating a safety-first culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and develop EHS & Fire safety policies, procedures, and systems in line with legal requirements.
- Conduct and follow up on risk assessments, environmental impact assessments, and fire inspections.
- Provide EHS & Fire training and toolbox talks.
- Advise management on legislation and internal standards.
- Lead incident investigations and implement preventative measures.
- Maintain documentation for ISO45001, ISO14001, and PEFC certifications.
- Coordinate with external authorities (HSE, EA, Fire Services, etc.)
- Track and report on site safety metrics, statistics, and trends.
- Set and manage EHS objectives in line with site goals.
- Support energy-saving and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Function as secretary and coordinator of the site EHS Committee
Person Specification
Essential:
- Minimum 2 years’ EHS & Fire management experience in an industrial setting
- NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum), with preference for NEBOSH Fire and IEMA certifications
- Knowledge of LOLER and RAMS
- Hands-on, shopfloor presence – not purely desk-based
- Strong interpersonal, influencing, and organisational skills
- Experience providing environmental training.
- Understanding of ISO-certified systems (45001, 14001)
- Proven results in driving safety improvements and cultural change
Desirable:
- Fire safety management experience.
- Experience with behavioural safety systems
- Presentation and training delivery skills
- Experience with environmental permitting and audits
