The Role
As a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining the performance and reliability of plant machinery across the production and packaging areas. The role involves a blend of preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, and continuous improvement, supporting a highly efficient production environment.
This is a physically active, hands-on position suited to individuals comfortable working in dusty areas, at height, and across a large industrial site.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out mechanical maintenance on machinery, including pneumatics, hydraulics, bearings, and gearboxes
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance tasks
- Support TIG and MIG welding work (training can be provided if required)
- Accurately log maintenance activity and ensure records are kept up to date
- Conduct fault diagnosis and root cause analysis (including 8D methodology)
- Collaborate with production and quality teams to optimise machine performance
- Assist the wider maintenance team with additional engineering tasks as needed
- Work safely at height and within dusty environments
Candidate Requirements
- NVQ Level 3 in Maintenance or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
- Mechanical engineering apprenticeship or relevant hands-on experience
- Experience in a manufacturing, engineering, or industrial environment
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced setting
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Physically fit and able to undertake a role involving regular walking and manual tasks
- Previous FMCG or high-volume production experience beneficial
Salary & Benefits
- Basic Salary: £43,399.20 (based on £21.40/hour x 39 hours)
- Annual Bonus: Up to £1,000 (based on plant performance and H&S targets, assessed quarterly)
- Overtime Rates: 1.5x on weekdays and Saturdays, 2x on Sundays and bank holidays
- Holiday Entitlement: Up to 25 days plus 8 bank holidays
- Pension Scheme:
- Employee contributions of 3% or 5% with matched employer contributions
- After 3 years’ service, employer will double the employee contribution
- After 10 years’ service, employee contribution can increase to 6%, with matching
- Total potential contribution of up to 18%
