Job Title: Mechanical Technician

Hours: Monday to Friday, 07:30 – 16:00 (40 hours per week)
Overview
A leading UK operator within the energy and resource recovery sector is seeking a Mechanical Technician to join its Energy Recovery Facility in Dunbar. This organisation operates large-scale, complex process plants and plays a key role in supporting the UK’s sustainability and energy-from-waste objectives.
The Mechanical Technician will support the long-term availability and reliability of the plant, helping to protect asset value and ensure operational and financial targets are achieved within the mechanical maintenance function.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned and unplanned mechanical maintenance activities across the site
- Support safe, efficient and environmentally compliant plant operation
- Maintain and improve asset availability and reliability
- Work within Permit to Work and Safe Systems of Work, including plant isolations
- Use Preventative Maintenance and Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
- Assist with the development of detailed scopes of work and engineering specifications
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the maintenance department
- Uphold a strong, no-compromise approach to Health & Safety
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience in mechanical maintenance within a heavy process, power generation or industrial plant environment
- Demonstrable track record of delivering maintenance plans safely, on time and within budget
- Strong knowledge of mechanical repair methods and maintenance best practice
- Experience working within Permit to Work and Safe Systems of Work environments
- Familiarity with Preventative Maintenance Systems and CMMS
- Some experience creating scopes of work / engineering specifications for external contractors
- Excellent understanding of Health & Safety legislation relevant to industrial or process environments
- Recognised engineering qualification (City & Guilds / NVQ or equivalent), ideally including a completed apprenticeship
- Strong communication and report-writing skills
- Team-focused with the ability to work towards shared objectives
- Logical problem-solver with the ability to prioritise workload and self-motivate
Package & Benefits
- Salary: £47,200+ per annum looking at an overall £50,000 package
- Bonus: Up to 10% annual bonus based on company and personal performance
- Call-out:
- 1 in 4 rota (Monday morning – Sunday night)
- £180 per week standby allowance
- Minimum 4 hours paid at time and a half per call-out
- Approx. £2,700+ per year additional earnings
