A well-established manufacturing organisation based in Bridgwater is seeking a Purchaser to join its procurement team. Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, this role will support the day-to-day purchasing of materials and goods, working closely with suppliers to ensure quality, cost and delivery requirements are consistently met.
This position would suit someone with purchasing or procurement administration experience who is looking to develop their career within a structured manufacturing environment.
The Role
As part of a small and collaborative team, you will be responsible for placing purchase orders, managing supplier relationships and supporting inventory and cost control activities. You will play an important role in ensuring continuity of supply and supporting supplier performance improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Place daily purchase orders and manage purchasing activity for materials and goods
- Follow up and expedite outstanding deliveries where required
- Run request for quotation (RFQ) processes
- Review supplier contracts and support cost reduction initiatives
- Maintain supplier and part master data within ERP systems
- Negotiate pricing, quality and delivery schedules with suppliers
- Ensure supplier contracts and documentation are accurate and up to date
- Develop delivery and inventory plans with suppliers, including supplier-held stock
- Manage non-conformance claims and coordinate replacements with suppliers
- Source and develop new and existing suppliers for current and new products
- Liaise with suppliers to resolve technical issues and maintain continuity of supply
- Maintain purchasing documentation, records and approved supplier lists
- Produce Excel-based reports to monitor supplier spend and KPI performance
- Support supplier review meetings and improvement projects
- Manage internal and supplier-held inventory levels for relevant components
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- GCSE Maths and English (Grade 4 or above) or equivalent
- Previous experience in purchasing, procurement or procurement administration
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel; Power BI experience desirable
- Experience using ERP systems; Fourth Shift and SAP experience preferred
- CIPS Level 2 (or working towards) advantageous

Location & Travel
- Site-based in Bridgwater, with some flexibility for home working
- UK travel as required; occasional international travel for training or supplier visits
