Salary: Up to £37,000 | Mon–Fri, 8am–4pm | Hybrid potential
We are working with a well-established manufacturing business specialising in aluminium window and door systems, who are looking to recruit a Design Engineer to join their growing engineering team.
This role will suit either an experienced Design Engineer with tooling or punch tool experience, or a graduate / early-career engineer looking to develop their skills within a supportive environment.
The Role
You will be responsible for producing high-quality 2D and 3D tooling designs to support the manufacture of aluminium window and door systems. Working closely with production, engineering and external suppliers, you’ll play a key role in the development of new and existing tooling, including prototype punch and crimping systems.
Your work will include creating CAD models and production drawings, supporting prototype builds, overseeing design changes and version control, and ensuring all designs meet agreed technical, quality and safety standards.
Full training will be provided where required, with support from a senior design engineer and access to external training courses.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop punch tool and crimping tooling systems
- Produce accurate 2D and 3D CAD drawings using Inventor and AutoCAD
- Support prototype tooling builds and tooling assembly to ensure quality
- Maintain and control all design documentation and drawing revisions
- Work to defined procedures, tolerances and manufacturing standards
- Liaise with production teams, other departments and external suppliers
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across tooling and processes
- Ensure quality, safety and compliance standards are consistently met
What We’re Looking For
- Mechanical Engineering qualification (HNC or equivalent minimum)
- Experience using 3D CAD software (Inventor, SolidWorks, AutoCAD or similar)
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, tolerances and specifications
- Understanding of manufacturing and tooling processes
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Ability to work accurately under pressure and to deadlines
- A positive, adaptable and team-focused approach
