Job Title: Carding Maintenance Engineer

The Role
An opportunity has arisen for a hands-on and proactive Carding Engineer to join the engineering team.
You will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and optimising carding machinery to ensure consistent performance and minimal downtime. This is a key role in supporting production output and maintaining high-quality standards within a manufacturing setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on carding equipment
- Respond quickly and effectively to machinery breakdowns
- Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults
- Work collaboratively with production and engineering teams to improve machine reliability
- Maintain accurate maintenance records
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
- Support and mentor operators and apprentices
- Reduce reliance on external contractors through effective in-house solutions
- Assist with spare parts management and asset care planning
- Ensure all work complies with health, safety, and environmental standards
Experience & Qualifications
Essential
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering
- Proven experience working with carding machinery in a manufacturing environment
- Strong fault-finding skills across mechanical and electrical systems
- Experience in root cause analysis and continuous improvement
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Methodical and analytical approach to problem-solving
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Proactive approach to maintenance and reliability
- Commitment to health & safety and quality standards
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior staff
Desirable
- Background in textile manufacturing or similar process-driven industry
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles
- Experience supporting capital projects or equipment upgrades
Salary & Package
- Salary: £56,500 per annum
- Shift Pattern: 12-hour shifts (2 days, 2 nights, followed by 4 days off)
